Got up atva normal time anf had breakfast and briefly talked to a girl from Southend who was taking the Komodo tour today. I went out to see some of yhe views on the map and ignored the driver from 2 days ago who had said its not a good idea to just walk around on your own. I walked through town past the mosque and across the playing field and carried on the road which was quieter so I listened to music and got to a viewpoint of the port and sone islands to the southwest. I carried on after pictures and walked on to a viewpoint which had views of the east. It was ok but I saw there was a hill so I went up and got more of a 270 degree view. From there I could see a higger hill behind me so I went down and walked up that one. As I came down a local with his friend who gad a motorbike wanted a picture with me so we took some before I shook their hands and headed back. There was not much on the road and 10 minutes later the guys came past on their motorbike honking and waving. I made it back to the hostel and hrabbed a pancake left for breakfast before showering and washing my hair. I decided to try to get my haircut as it was 10am I had about 30 minutes, but I couldn't find the shop I'd seen yesterday. So I decided to go to the airport and walk there. I packed up, showrred, but wore my old clothes as it was going to be sweaty work. I started the walk up the hill and was sweating in no time. The walk was ok and I arrived around 10.45am at the airport, went through security and went to freshen up in the toilet which is when I realised I had left my kindle and charger in the room. I checked my suitcase in for the flight and then had to go back to town and pick up my things. As you can imagine I was really sweating now but all was ok and I had 20 minutes to boarding time so I grabbed a couple of cheap drinks and headed back. I got to the airport and went straight through both security checks without putting my belt back on in between and I cooled off and dried off a bit in the toilet so that I could change clothes. The flight was ok and they provide a sandwich and water which is not bad for a 1 hour flight. We arrived at Bali and I had to wait for my suitcase before I dried out my shirt more and packed it away with some other things I didn't need as I'd upgraded to 25kg check in weight. As my flight was in 2.5 hours I left the airport and went for a walk and found a cheap place to eat where I had rice with noodle chicken (overpriced ), tempe (delicious), tofu (filling) and banana (always good). I carried on to a mall where the supermarket prices were a bit high for tourists, it was marked 3 times on maps.me though so was popular. I visited a local church which had a service and then headed to the beach which wasn't in the best condition. On the way back to the airport I got some more food for the flight but they were out of tofu and I got the last banana. Going through security they didn't allow water this time and on a whim or from habit I finished one bottle and took the empty with me which turned out to be good as they had water coolers to use. I managed to find a computer to use before we boarded and I had the last 3 seats to myself which was good except I was on the wrong side for the sunset and my seats wouldn't fold back. I spent most of the flight reading the airasia magazine which is pretty good and got some ideas of places to visit as well as some good quiz type facts for example which country flies their flag upside down during times of war? We landed and I was one of the last off and we seemed to be mingling with s lot of people without having gone through passport control which is strange. Somehow I got lost heading towards arrivals but went to see the orchid (???) and cactus gardens. I made my way through customs and found my suitcase was one of a few left on the carousel so I grabbed it and headed to the train managing to get wifi on the way so I messaged Tiong the Mensa sight person to say I was here. The MRT trains were good as you expect for Singapore and I made it to the hostel around 10.30, checked in and my room was really squashed with longways rather than sideways bunks and little storage space. They had a list of festivals and things to do and one was nearby and was some lights that had been put up for Chinese new year. I went to have a look and there were a lot of people still eating and out and about shopping in the area even though it was late. The lights were a bit like what we have on Oxford street, ok but nothing amazing, after I went back to the hostel, did a bit of internet and went to sleep. Answer - the Philippines fly their flag upside down when at war so the red (blood) side is at the top.
