Wokeup at 4am and gad to turn the fan down as I was too cold, a problem with not having a blanket, then at 6.20 I woke up and got up returning from the bathroom to put on bug cream and get my things together. Daniel was up and was getting ready. I had most of my stuff ready but went back in the room for my power bank and the french guy moaned at me for making noise, I said what are you talking about and the woman said they were up at 5.30 yesterday and had got everything ready the night before. I'm not sure if they just wanted a moan or an argument, being French it could have been both (onlu joking if course for any of my French friends reading this). Dan was not quite ready so I headed out to see the sea stack which was one of the shorter routes and I briefly saw a proboscis monkey on the way but it was shy. The beach and stacks were disappointing but I got a few pictures and headed back meeting Dan about 15 minutes later, he'd been looking at the monkeys for a bit and was looking to make yhe 9am boat and I wasn't sure I'd make it as I was doing trail 5 and 6. I saw at couple more monkeyd on my way back and also stopped at another view point. I got back to the junction and headedthe for the other trails which were quicker than the timethey gave but not by a huge amount. The first end I came to was trail 5 which was a clifftop with good views possiblyof the beach I went to yesterday. The second end was a beach which meant going down and back up again and there wasn't much there. I headed back and it was getting close to 9 so I stepped up my pace a bit and expected that I could get to the boat just before it left and connect with Daniel on Facebook. It was cutting it fine and I got there about 5 past 9 but there were no boats around so I wandered back to the main site and Dan was outside the canteen having just finished breakfast. It seems nobody was running boats yet although they couldn't tell us when. We packed up our stuff and came back and the first boat was at 10 so we still had 40 minutes so I suggested the interpretation centre which is where they talk about the park, its animals and plants. Some things were interesting but there was too much written and not enough pictures or diagrams. We let and grabbed a cake before going to the boat which took 10 minutes to go although we still got to Bako bus/boat terminal at 10.30 andthe bus was at 11 so there had been no rush. I planned to go to Santubong and Dan planned to go to Mirri by hitchhiking and hoped to make Sibu today. We chatted a bit more and he'd been in Singapore but flown here from Johor Bahru as it was cheaper than Singapore. He got off first as tgat was where all the hostels were, I went back to my hostel and the owner let me keave a bag and went through the bus schedule and was very helpful and it looked like I could get a 12.30 bus there and s 3.30 bus back so I rushed towards the bus station and maee it a few minutes warly which is good after missing the bus 2 days ago. The bus was there nut didn't go to the park as the route had changed. I asked at the office and they said to get a minivan which meant waiting for it to fill up and then waiting to go back again, not a great idea when trying to catch a later bus but I went and had a look and the minivan was still on its way here. I decided to do a few local things and went to the river to catch a boat across and some people got off one gaving paid just 2 ringitts so I should have got the boat 2 days ago. I had some lunch and then took the boat across for just 1 rm and went to see fort Margherita named after a sultans wife, the Rainee. The firt was nice if a bit small but entry was 20rm for foreigners for the new gallery so I gave it a miss and went to take a better photo of the admin building I wasn't allowed in. Then I went to the planetarium which had a show at 2.15. It was important to be on time as they had a sign saying they don't let people in once the show starts. I got there at 2.10 and it looked shut but I asked the man there and it was ok so I paid my 2rm and he opened the place up and I was tbe only one there for the 45 minute show. It was good but covered things I'd heard before and in the warm dark I came close to sleeping. I left at the end past the viewing building still closed down and went to the Islamic museum which at first looked small but had lots if rooms so took a bit of time. I was still ok fettig back to the hostel before 4pm, I got my stuff, filled up my water, thanked the owner who didn't charge me luggage storage and I walked to the bus station. There was a bus there and we got to the terminal which had the shopping mall like ghe hostel owner had said. The bus wasn't at 6.30 like he internet gad said it was 6pm or 7pm so I got the 6pm one and had a look around the shops. I found a supermarket and got a few snacks and a carton of juice, then I saw some dunlop trainers for 60 ringitt which I considered but I thought my nikes might be fixable with the glue I had and I got some sandwiches and boarded the bus. We headed out and I glued a bit of the tread back on the shoes, mainly the front part but the ride was bumpy and it soon got dark so I left it and after a while I started trying to sleep with my jumper on which went ok with a few periods of waking up at stops and things.
