I woke up at 7.30 which I thought was late. I had a shower and the sky looked grey like it might rain so I packed my umbrella along with 2 bottles of water as I wasn't going to be able to refill it like I had in Korea and Japan. Then I realised that I'd forgotten to put my watch back so it was now 7am which was pretty early. As the electric plug by my bed hadn't worked I went looking for a plug that worked and found some in the TV room area. I charged my camera battery and my other devices and watched a bit of doctor strange on a pirate DVD. The camera battery was soon charged and I headed out around 7.30. I went to the double 6 monument which was for the 6 people who died in a plane crash in the 70's and then while I was deciding where to go it started raining and soon it was heavy rain so I went under a shelter but I was already a bit wet. I got my Japanese umbrella out and walked through the park to try to get out and onto the road but there was a fence blocking the way and with the spikes and the fence being wet I went back and got to the main road where I changed my planned route in instead go for an ATM as I needed some cash. The ATM didn't work so I carried on and bought noodles to take away from a place for just 2.50, so I was almost out of money. I was crossing a bridge and took a photo and it stopped raining, so I put umbrella away to eat the rest of my noodles and carried on to another ATM and again it didn't work. I crossed the road and walked to the corner and it started to rain a bit, so I went to take my umbrella out but there was no umbrella. I went back to look for it and covered the ground back to the bridge a couple of times but there was nothing. At least the threat of rain didn't fully materialise and I carried on walking and looking for an ATM and avoided what looked like a dodgy bank as it was on the 2nd floor in a block of flats or something. I went past an Internet shop which was just 3 RM per hour and would have been great for me to catch up on my blog, but it was early and I had to go see some places. I finally found an ATM that worked before walking through the centre of town, past some places that were still closed as it was still fairly early. I went to my favourite restaurant place when I was here before and got some fried Mee noodles for 2 RM and carried on past places I'd been to before like the tourist office where last time I was enquiring about the 1 day mountain climb. I got through most of town and saw quite a few people out and about and I went to see and they were all in the port area getting ready for boat trips like scuba and snorkelling. I went back and then along the road with not much to see and a bit and a man stopped and maybe offered a lift but I couldn't understand well enough and it started to rain so I kind of thought about that missed lift but it was only light rain and stopped soon enough. I carried on and got to the sea front with some views across the bay and there was a beach as well. After a bit more walking I made it to the mosque and climbed over a wall for good shots of it across the water. Then I walked to the entrance and went in, but a man there spotted me and said I can't wear shorts which is standard for a mosque. I had to go to a nearby shop and hire and outfit which came with a hat and then went back into the mosque and to the main hall, but there was not much to see. A friendly girl took my picture and talked a little to me about Ramadan which started soon. I left and went round mosque for more photos before returning the outfit and was glad to be free of it in the heat. I headed on and remembered what the air smell and taste reminded me of: a tropical greenhouse like the palm house at Kew gardens, it really was that hot. I ignored the nearby food places as it was a bit early and went a bit further to a mosque which was not so good and I started heading back from there. I next came to a Church which was not worth seeing and then a temple that was a decent size and was ok. I headed back a different route and the walk along the road was a bit boring and I was also a bit hungry so I went to see a small church which was shut, then went to shop. I wasn't great for food and I bought a washing bag, some dates and 1 litre of water as it was so hot, then I carried on along the road to a Japanese graveyard, but there was nothing there. On the other side a bit along was a Chinese graveyard on a hill which looked quite cool. I took a couple of photos and didn't climb over anything and headed back to the main road and on to a nearby temple which had quite a large hall and a pagoda with 6 floors that could be climbed up, so naturally that's what I did although the views were only ok. I left and went to All saints Cathedral which was a fairly modern with a flat and wide design. Nearby was the Islamic civilisation museum which was 15 RM but just 2 RM for locals so I skipped it and went to the other museum area. There I saw the Eco garden orchid area and walked around a bit before coming back across a bridge to the Railway museum. It seemed there was a railway here once but has since become disused. I then had a quick look at the science museum which was one room with interactive displays, good for kids. I had another look at the Orchid garden as I didn't see any actual orchids, but the path after a while was blocked, so I headed back to the Sabah museum which was 15RM as a joint ticket with the Islamic civilisation museum making it more worthwhile, but as I'd already passed on that I carried on along the road to a park and a Monument there. I had a little look around and off to the side was an interesting looking newish building which was the Department of culture and arts. I headed on back and crossed a road to some food places and as I hadn't properly eaten I went in a place with ok prices and got a full meal with chicken. It was good and I left and picked up a drink from a nearby shop, then went the wrong way. I ended up getting a banana from the restaurant for 1 rm and walked on to a temple which was not so easy to get to. It was worth it though as it had a nice pagado and a hall. I tried to get to a coloured building I'd seen, but there was no crossing over a canal and I ended up going back to the main road and on to a mosque which had a silver and gold roof and looked good with turrets and the dome. I was close to where I had started the day and there was a market so I had a look and got some food for now and later including noodles, some rice, chicken curry, and a bunch of Bananas. Then I went back to the hotel/spa and got my things and left early so I should be ok to get to the airport on time. I went to the main road on the way to the airport but there was no bus stop so I carried on walking along the road. Again there was no bus stop, and I crossed to walk along the road where it was safer as there was a pavement and I got to see the sunset over a mosque and stilt buildings. I carried on and some people signalled me and came to offer me a lift which was nice and I left all my bags in the back of the pickup truck which was a bit stupid but nothing happened and I was early at airport and checked in my bag. I ate some of the food I'd bought earlier and drunk my drink before going through security and ignored the Air Asia bag check which may have caused me problems with my suitcase being too heavy. I found an empty gate area and sat there and charged my things and read for a bit before Security moved me, but I found space at the back of my gate and some plugs as well. I went to get water and found someone in my area, but I sat there and read some more and the flight was delayed so it was very late by the time I got on the plane. I found my seat and a couple with a kid had taken it so I sat in front of them in an emergency aisle so I was not allowed a bag by my feet. The seat belt sign went off and I got my things, but slept some of the flight and at least it arrived a bit earlier than I expected at 12.10. I got through quickly as there was no passport control but I had to wait for bag. Then I went to the bus station and got a ticket for sentral as it was at 12.30, while there was a bus to Bukit bintang at 1pm which was near to my hostel. The bus arrived at Sentra at 1.15am and everything was shut with only taxis and I walked like an idiot out of the place to find only big busy motorway type roads and of course no busses or anything. It was quite a long way and I arrived there at 2.30, but then couldn't find the place. I wandered a bit and eventually looking at the map again, I worked out where it was and got to the Goldbrick hotel only to be told by the man on the desk that there was no booking for me and no rooms. I kept asking why, and how as I had my booking and then I got him to call Agoda and it transpired that the guy on the desk had cancelled my booking. Another guy came to sort out something at reception and he was looking at Hat Yai and other places for a place to go to so I offered some advice. He left and as I had booked a bed here and none was available I wasn't about to just leave so I tried to sleep on the couch, but the guy wouldn't let me and booking.com called back with more info and it seemed the guy still had no room although he had 2 rooms which had been closed for electrical reasons. I went back to the couch again and got moved outside where I put some tables together to sleep on but the reception guy came back as he had room since a guy was leaving. I paid and also paid a deposit and got a bed in a really cramped space room where everyone else was awake. The other guy from earlier was on his computer and I went to sleep.
