I woke up around 5am as the train had stopped but slept a bit more once it moved again and at 7am I had some breakfast. I headed south past the city wall and into town and headed towards the tube station. There was s shop which looked like it might be good so I went in and a little boy there said hello and I replied in Chinese Nee-how which made the women there laugh. I felt I had to buy something now so I picked up a pack of biscuits and some juice and then I saw some bruised or old fruit so I got some of that and it was just 1 yen per 500g. I walked on to the metro and got the train a few stops and then walked to the hostel which was a little further than I thought it would be. I found the hostel where it was supposed to be and checked in ok with a bottom bunk but no electric plug so I had to use someone else's socket. I got my things together and headed out in shorts to see the town. I ate a banana but there were no bins around which was annoying and the roads were small with motorbikes on as well. I headed towards a temple and found small mosque and there were quite a few Muslims around. The temple when I got there was decent so worth the look. I headed on afterwards and found a shopping street with slow people but at least there were some blue bins. I checked the map and I had gone past the big mosque so I went back down an alley with market stalls. I found the great mosque as they call it and went in and there were a few buildings in a kind of complex which is not what other mosques are like. There was a small pagoda minaret and a main hall that non muslims are not allowed in. There were lots of Western tourists around the place including a Dutch group. I went sll around and left and came to another shopping street which was wider at least. There were Chinese men grinding things or hammering at shops that could have easily been done elsewhere or with a machine but this attracted more attention. At the end of the street and in the middle of town was the drum tower which was fairly big and nearby the bell tower which had a mall behind. I wanted to see a park so I took the metro north and then walked towards the park but went down some steps to a supermarket where I got a papaya, tofu and bananas. They had no rice or food cooking. I left and ate the papaya but it was no good. I got to the park which was big and there were notices and fences. There was a ticket booth where tickets were 60 yuan but it looked closed as it was late maybe since it was 5.15pm. I went north to some other ruins in the park and a temple mound but there wasn't so much to see. The north gate looked new and I headed round to the east and headed south to the lake. I walked around the lake and was soon behind a fence again and there were more signs but they kept repeating some of the same information. I was nearing the south exit and there were kites flying with some of them really high and the people were in a big square. I had a look at the archaeology museum but it looked closed so I went out of the park and saw its south gate which was a decent size.I crossed and went through the mall a bit and then south down a road to the city wall. I stayed in the city and went west past a small tower. There was an art shopping area with some modern Chinese style paintings. I went yo the stele museum which was not cheap and offered a combined ticket with walking the wall but I carried on through the gate and along the wall on the outside. I went back inside the wall to the Yong Ning art museum and there was a furniture shop there but the museum was shut. I went south through the wall again and down an underground passage but it was no good so I needed to take another underground passage to the centre where the views were good of the wall and I took some photos. I walked back into town and stopped at the supermarket from the morning and I bought more fruit, quite a lot and then they gave me more as well after I had paid. I headed west towards my hostel on the next road and ate some fruit. Maybe I was becoming a fruitarian like the Kevin Spacey character in the film K-Pax. I walked through a park, saw a lake, then a temple which was closed. There was also a tower in the park and a lot of people dancing to music. I carried on along the road and stopped in a shop and bought a pot noodle to eat then I realised I'd gone past a memorial so I went back but there wasn't anything much to see as it was inside a university. I carried on the way I was meant to go, stopped at another shop for biscuits and went past another park with more dancing and a roller skating rink. I got back to the hostel and there was a guy in the room in bed already at 8pm. There weren't many people around but there was a BBQ in the garden and people there. I asked a guy if this was part of the hostel and he said no. I went downstairs to the games room which had a pool table and I read there a bit before going to the bedroom where guys were in the room and had the light on even though the other one was asleep. I went to bed at 11pm.
