Got up around 6.50 and still felt a bit tired, did my morning things, tried to verify myself with couchsurfers and packed my things away. Just about managed to get everything in the end, left my new falling apart trainers and took my flip flops as backup. Was running late and the guy at the desk wanted the key back and gave me my 10 RM (Ringgits) deposit so I ran for the bus and saw it coming as I reached the temple so I rushed across a road with traffic and stopped the bus just past the stop and he let me on. There were a few people going to Bako but I got off the bus first and got my tickets and then realised I only had 85 ringgits left so I went to see if there might be an ATM and there wasn't. I went back and got in the boat which they really filled up including a few large Australians who sat on one side and the boat moved a bit to their side. A short boat ride later with no crocs spotted we pulled up and took our life vests off and walked towards the centre past some macaque monkeys waiting for any food that might be available and some wild pigs that were digging up the grass. At the reception they told us which trails to take (several of the long ones were closed), but the hostel check in had to be after 2pm. I decided to do the long treks 7 and 9 (star trek voyager anyone) and headed out leaving most of my stuff in the unlocked luggage room. The trek started by going uphill and 10 minutes in I was already sweating pretty heavily. Thankfully it flattened out and also became more covered so it was easier. There wasn't much to see though, lots of carnivorous plants, trees, mud, bushes and I did hear a sound and after waiting managed to see a monkey which was just s macaque anyway. Close to the waterfall some people came back from the trek and didn't look terribly enthused and when I got there I saw why. The waterfall was more like a stream with a few small drops. I carried on shortly to the beach which was quite nice but climbing down meant I had to climb back up again. I again went past the waterfall which involves walking across the stream, but again no accidents, waterfalls are just my thing. Heading back it was still early so I had time for route 9 so I turned that way and again it went down to a beach although it was a bit more rocky. A few pictures later and I headed back and got back about 2.10 almost perfect timing. There was nobody on the desk to check me in but I got someone to do it and I went to my room in an wooden out house like they all are. There were 4 beds and the last 2 were taken with sleeping bags there, seems we don't get blankets. (I should have asked for a blanket at reception but I did the next day and they don't do them). So I left my stuff there and went to get some food. They had self service which charged per item or per scoop. I took a few scoops of things and thought it would cost 8 ringgits which would eat into my meager funds but the guy only charged me 4. I sat down and started eating and realised the water I'd filled up was yellow so I didn't drink it and went and bought a 1.5 litre bottle for 4rm. I went back to the room and went the wrong way and saw a proboscious monkey run across the grass and into a tree. Back at the room I decided on the loop walk and met the person who had the last bed in the room who was considering the waterfall trail I had done as he wanted to go swimming. I said I wouldn't swim there myself but if you want to and showed him pictures. I hot my stuff together and he had gone before me but I caught him up near the start of the trail and he was now going to climb the hill/mountain which was on the loop. So we walked along together and he was called Daniel and from Hungary and was looking to work in Australia for a bit so I told him some of the things I learnt about the place. We got up to the top and there was a bit of a view and then headed down and Daniel decided to do the loop as well. We got most of the way round without seeing much and were almost back when we heard a monkey in the tree and it was a proboscis quite far away with a baby. We watched for a while and more turned up and they all went over our heads but high up. We managed to find somewhere we could watch them and one by one about 20 monkeys crossed from one side to the other and went off somewhere. They were never close enough for good photos but we could watch them moving through the trees. Afterwards we found out we'd gone off the main route so it was just lucky we saw them. We headed back and I suggested a sunset point up a hill which turned out to be facing east rather than west so we went down to the beach for a bit of sunset which was nothing special. Afterwards we got some dinner and I tried the boidle special which was ok, Daniel was a bit tired and had a dodgy stonach so had some simple food and wasn't doing the night walk which I wasn't sure of as I'd done one before and it was average ut this was only 10 ringitt so after a shower I joined up for the walk. We had 4 guides and 14 tourists on the walk but as we all walked in a line we were just waiting for others to move on from taking pictures so we could see what they saw and the guide had described. It was not great but at least most of the animals stayed there. We saw frogs, spiders, scorpions, stick insects, termites, crickets, catfish, birds and the highlight was a green snake that was just next to one of the houses.
It was 9.30 when it finished and nobody seemed interested in any games or anything so I did some research on my phone and around 10.30 I went to brush my teeth and when I got back the light was out so I went to sleep.
