I got up late around 8.15 and breakfast was busy with a big group of what looked like Malaysians. So I packed my stuff and the staff woman was there to move me to the 6 bed dorm room which was empty when I went in so I had choice of beds. I went back to breakfast and it was still busy so I stood up at a table and also used my own bread for sandwiches for later. I didn't have a shower but still left around 9.30 and the first part of the walk was the same as yesterday. I came to a church but it was inaccessible due to construction work which also meant I couldn't get to a park but I went to another one on a hill and managed 8 pull ups on the monkey bar. I got close to the nature reserve and there was a grave site and memorial on the map but I couldn't see how to get there as there was solid jungle blocking the way. I crossed a main road by footbridge and was at the Mackenzie reservoir reserve. I headed across some grass towards the water and a sign said not to walk on the grass and there was CCTV, but I don't think that's an arrest-able of fine-able offence (fingers crossed). The reservoir was a reasonable size and I headed West along a boardwalk near the water and next to jungle with notices detailing plants and animals in the reserve. I saw some people gathered around some monkeys but they were the regular ones you see so much of so I walked past. I was coming up to a junction in the path and it was blocked and the sign said the golf course route blocked which was annoying as that was an important part of my route. Anyway the map had a road I could take which was a diversion but at least I could still get to the same places I had planned like a tower. I walked along the road until I got stopped on a path by someone and told I couldn't go this way as it was a golf course so I went back on the road and soon a security guard stopped me as they don't let people through. This was a massive blow to my route and now I would have to go on a proper highway to get there. I walked back along the road and turned onto a small road to the side which would take me most of the way to the highway but then it came to an end and I had to go through trees. At first it was ok and easy to walk, but then it got harder and I came to a stream which was not easy to cross, but I managed without getting wet at all. On the other side it was still difficult going and then it got really hard and I was maybe 30 metres from the road and 80 metres in so I forced my way through and with a few very minor scratches I made it through and now I was walking along next to the road which was ok as there was a barrier and a hard shoulder. I came to a small road and went along it and came to the golf course path which I wasn't supposed to go on even though it went exactly where I needed to go so I avoided it and came to a construction site where someone said there was no way through so I would have to go along the golf course road back so I went back to the highway and carried along there. It was a fair distance and in places the side was so overgrown I had to climb over and walk on the hard shoulder for a bit and cross a road as well as there was an intersection. After a while I came to a bridge which didn't seem to have a purpose, I had a look and it was called eco bridge. One the other side of the bridge, across the road just a short distance was a nature reserve so I decided to cross but it had a fence there for some reason, however there was enough space so I crawled under and went across the bridge. On the other side I made my way into Bukit Timah Hill reserve and climbed the hill which was a lot of steps up. I looked at the map and decided to go down and walk around a reservoir and that would take me to an exit near to the old Ford factory which Tiong had told me to visit so I went that way down the steps and chose the right path using my phone but the route was blocked so I had to go most of the way back up the hill and round to the south west exit and the visitors centre. I looked round the information they had and there was one board about an eco bridge they had built so that animals could cross the motorway and their ecosystems were not split completely, so that was the bridge I had crossed. In the heat of the day and with all the walking I had been doing I had sweated a lot and so I dried out my t-shirt a bit and freshened up a bit in the toilet and also picked up some water from the dispensers they had. After I headed out towards the Ford factory and went along a Railway path for a while which reminded me of the Highgate to Finsbury park walk in London but there's was not as long or as wooded. I made my way to the memorial for the war the Japanese had built while they occupied and they allowed the Singaporeans to build a small one as well but it had been demolished some time ago and there was just steps and a stone book remaining. I left and missed the path to the ford factory so had to walk back and when I got there the factory was shut anyway for some major renovations judging by the trucks they had there. I went towards the first nature reserve I had planned to walk across and went past a place marked as green on my map which was now almost completed houses so the map can be out of date. Past a park and some allotments I got the nature reserve where people were biking on the paths. I headed in the direction to cross the whole reserve but there were lots of blocked paths probably because of the army so I had to change direction a lot until I realised it was not possible to cross so I headed back and made my way towards some train stations and possibly a Chinese and Japanese garden. On the way I went past a football pitch and I stopped for a bit and counted that one team had 10 players and the other had 11 with 4 subs which was not too fair. I asked if it was a league match and they said it was a friendly so I went to the other side of the pitch and asked if I could play and they said yes but they didn't have any spare shirts and they wore red and the other team dark grey and I was wearing black so I didn't think that was good. I thought of going topless but instead I headed back and went past a small church. On the map there looked like a path across a park but it turned out to be blocked, again probably the army so I had to go round whcih was longer and with it getting later I decided not togo to the gardens and went to an old quarry/reservoir whcih had a nice view of a cliff face. I got on the underground and got back to the hostel around 8pm.
I thought about trying to meet up with some people or watch the football and there were no meetup events on that day in Singapore so it can't be used much. I got some food and used the internet a bit and then saw the football in a couple of places but the drinks were so expensive I didn't bother to stay and went back to the hostel and chatted to Ryan an American who had been to the red light district in Singapore and recommended it to me but i was tired and not interested so I went to bed around 11.30pm. I checked Shealth and I had walked my record number of steps - 49,778 for the day.
