woke up at 7.30 with the room dark and no sound the cause of sleeping late. I showered and Clive and Frances were up and had started on breakfast. It was good staying 2 nights in the same place and the scrambled eggs with tomatoes on toast were delicious, especially the tomatoes. We left around 9 and walked to the peace park but Frances's foot hurt and she only wanted to cross at crossings which meant I got to the museum first, bought the ¥200 ticket and left a lot of my things in a locker. The start of the museum was a big photo and then a display with no information so I decided to go back down and pay ¥200 for the audio guide but there was no way down so I continued on instead and watched the video of survivor stories. Clive and Frances joined me there but I as I was there first I moved on first and went to the next room where there was a lot of information displays. The first section was crowded so I went to the last section first which was about disarmament negotiations and other Countries getting nuclear weapons which I thought was really important but when I finished there were still lots of people in the first section so I shuffled round with them looking at the boards which were more on the early planning stages up to the bombs dropping. There was one more room downstairs and I finished first and waited a bit. I found the section about the USA's decision to use the a bomb interesting and the fact that they wanted to see its impact so they hadn't bombed the cities much before. They had also used uranium 235 for Hiroshima and Plutonium 239 for Nagasaki as a test as well. Clive and Frances wanted the tram and I wanted to walk so we separated and headed to the nearest train station where I arrived first. A train came and left and then they arrived having walked the wrong way to start but the train came in 10 minutes and took us to the ferry area where we could just walk on the ferry which left every 10-15 minutes so it was best we hadn't booked it which we had tried to do. The ferry took us close to the shrine on the island where there were lots of people walking around the gate as the tide was out and an information board told us that low tide was in 1 hour at 1.30 with high tide around midnight. We started west towards the shrine and saw quite a few deer but not as many as Nara , then went past some food stalls and Clive bought a pancake and we sat on the sea wall to eat. I had my noodles which I was eating out of my hand when a sea eagle swooped down and tried to steal it but my grip was just strong enough that it dropped and I picked it up only to have a deer eat a brochure from the side pocket of my bag. We walked through the shops looking for more food but a fishball stick didn't appeal so we got to the shrine area and I wanted to go to the gate but there were no steps down so I climbed down the 6 foot wall and Clive and Frances headed on with a vague plan of meeting ahead. The gate was orange and had concrete up to where the sea level was and was wood above that. I took some photos then walked to the temple and climbed up. I couldn't see Clive or Frances and after a bit I wandered the temple which had lots of stilted walkways and then left to the west where there was a ticket office for the temple. There was a 5 floor pagoda so I headed there and there was also a big 1 floor temple with ¥100 entry. I had a look at both and then decided to see the area to the west before going to the beach for a swim. I got a text message from Clive saying they had decided to do their own thing so it would be a good time to climb the hill but it was still the middle of the day and hot do only a fool would climb then and I headed East to see that area and visit the beach. I managed to get WiFi and message Clive then walked along the coast. There was a small beach on the way that I considered but I got to the larger beach and it was nice so I changed into my trunks and had a brief swim in the fairly cold water. It was close to 3.30 so I went to climb the hill and went along a path in the right direction but I wasn't sure if it would go as the map had it stopping but there was a path so I carried on. The path went round and upwards and after a bit I realised I was just climbing a small hill there rather than the main hill mount misen of the island. I left the park and headed of piste down through the trees and along in the right general direction. Then I had to climb a steep hill using trees to stop me slipping. I carried on through the forest and managed to find some semblance of paths but I also managed to lose my sunglasses and as I'd broken my other pair I had none left. After a while I connected to a proper path signposted for mount misen and went along that to the 2nd cable car station. I thought of maybe taking the car as they might not check tickets there but then I couldn't say I'd really climbed the mountain and the views were quite good. At the 3rd and last cable car the path went east to a temple and then up to the top. It was gone 5pm and the observatory was closed and the toilet gad no drinking water. The views were ok but not really better than what I'd seen but I was on time for my plans and headed back down. There was a shrine on the way down but as it was a diversion I missed it but I did look at the temple I'd wanted to see and it was shut and looked a decent size so it was a shame I'd got there so late. At the bottom the tide had come in all the way to the temple and the gate was submerged so I looked at that and forgot about the ¥100 temple I meant to have a look at. I didn't see Clive or Frances but I headed to the ferry and got a message nearby just as I got there and they were there and had only waited 5 minutes. We got the ferry and train back and they went to the apartment while I went to the supermarket to get some eggs and things for breakfast the next day. I shopped around and got myself some gyoza and a pack of some balls which were discounted for dinner and spent a while trying to find good bananas and lettuce for Frances. I had to give up on the lettuce and just bought a discounted one. Back at the apartment Clive and Frances were ready to go out as I had been a while so I let them leave and ate my dinner and headed out before 9 to meet up with them. I went to the castle and found that the bridge could be crossed and the area explored although the castle and temple buildings themselves were closed. I got a message from Clive saying to meet later so I looked around a bit more and then walked to the restaurants. The city was quiet with not too much happening and the first restaurant looked complicated to get to but they were in the 2nd anyway cooking their own food on a grill. I considered a pineapple wine but the girl never came back to take my order so we left to look for some bars and found a karaoke place that had pricing options including unlimited alcoholic drinks. We looked a bit longer but there were no bars or pubs visible so we headed back with me walking and them looking for a bus as the trams had stopped. I got back first and they arrived a bit later as they'd had to walk as well in the end. We each did different things including book a room in Tokyo and I submitted a form to Lupine travel to book a north Korea tour which was going to be a pain to organise because of the Chinese visa. I put the futon in the kitchen again and we all went to sleep around 11.30
