I woke up and it was 5.30 but there was a noise like a generator so I stuffed my ear plugs in more and slept until 7.30 when I got up end realised it was the bathroom fan making the noise. I left before 8 and walked around the town to see the places I'd not seen yesterday. There was a big temple next to the river which was ok and then a small shrine. I went to the dinosaur museum and was about yo ask how much it was but the guy had pulled out a ticket for me and it was 10k so I paid. The museum was 2 rooms with some dinosaur bones and some French descriptions but then there was some English as well. It was not very good and I was unable to work out how much had been discovered locally by whom etc. I left and went to another temple before getting to the park with the statue and no runners today. I headed on north to a Chinese temple which was ok, better than the one I saw first thing in the morning which was just a normal building. I headed back then with just one more temple on the way which had a big building being constructed. It was 9.20 when I got back so I showered, packed and tried to look up accommodation in Pakse but the WiFi wasn't working properly. I left and went to the bus station and bought a ticket for the 10.30 train. There were quite a lot of nice large buses going to Thailand which is nearby but my bus loaded up somewhere in the station and almost left without me. I got on with my suitcase and there was quite a lot of space. We didn't go very far before stopping at 11.30 near to a temple where there were lots of market people and a load of women got on the bus to try to sell us things like a whole cooked chicken. I got off and had a quick look at the temple and bought some rice so along with the bread and banana it was a carbohydrate day so far. We carried on after at least 15 minutes there and stopped an hour later but only to pick up and drop off passengers for a few minutes. We did a few more stops on the way but none for long. I noticed a tourist on the bus and when we got to the northern bus station in Pakse she got off and couldn't find out if it was the last stop. I got off and tried to explain to her that the bus does go further but she was listening but not really listening as the website did say you get off here and get a tuk tuk. I wasn't sure anyway but after a few minutes the bus did carry on and I got off in town a bit further than I wanted but much closer. I walked back to town to find somewhere to stay and turned a road too early and ended up at the market which didn't have great roads. I bought some spring rolls which I thought were noodles and made my way to the main road I wanted. It was hot so I had to stop after a bit but I made it to a hotel where the man said he had fan rooms for 50k. Unfortunately they were all taken do he offered air con for 80k. I said maybe and went to check out the next place which offered me a room for 5,000. I expect she meant 50,000 which is ok so I took it and left my things there ate the spring rolls and realised the room was a bit rubbish as the curtain didn't go all the way and there was no sink so I had to use the toilet hose to wash my hands over the toilet. I asked if they have WiFi and they didn't so I headed out and as it was 4.30 I decided to see the Buddha on the hill which I could see from the roof where I was staying. Maps.me said it was 1 hour 39 to get there so I was in a hurry to make it for sunset. I walked along the road I'd come along earlier and stopped briefly at a temple. Then I tried to take a slight shortcut that the map included but there was building work for a fairly impressive building and the road was closed. I'd lost a few minutes and stepped up my pace a bit but my stomach wasn't 100%, maybe from the spice with the spring rolls. I got to the bridge I needed to cross and there was a path on the side for walking with a barrier and crossing it took a while as the Mekong is pretty wide so when I was across I was not too far from the Buddha statue on the hill. I looked at the map again and there were some paths which went close as the map had given me a long road option. I could also see some steps that were not on the map so I navigated old school with my eyes and went up the steps. I got fairly close and there was a path but it just circled so I decided to just climb up myself even though I said I wouldn't do this at least here because it's so dry there were no plants to brush aside just a few trees. I climbed up and as it was steep it was a bit tricky and then I came to a place that had been burnt so there was charcoal all over and I got pretty dirty climbing up. At the top I found a half full/empty (you decide) bottle of water someone had left and washed my hands with it. The Buddha had some good views although pakse isn't a special place and there was a lot of haze. There were also some other buildings including a temple and 2 viewing platforms and 5 riws of Buddha statues. I went around for a bit, enjoyed the view and then walked back down along the walking path where the wooden staircase had fallen apart near the top. The sun was still in the sky but was really orange from the haze and when I was crossing the bridge back it disappeared behind the haze. Back in town I headed west past the Mary2 hotel I'd looked at earlier, past a church to a market where there was supposed to be a supermarket but there was nothing there. I bought a papaya and a Japanese man wanted half a bunch of bananas so I bought the other half. I found an internet shop but I hadn't eaten so I went round a few places and found somewhere which had meals for 15,000. I chose a dish on the menu but they didn't have it so I chose another dish which they also didn't have and then she showed me the only dish for 15k, chicken and rice which I had and was ok. I went back to the internet place and stayed there until 9.20 then I went back to the guesthouse where I found that the TV didn't work. It was annoying not having internet as I couldn't plan the next day something I should have done more of at the internet place. I read some and went to sleep around 10.30 and the bed/mattress wasn't very good with springs sticking up.
