I woke up at 5am so it looked like I was making the 6.40 train. I had a shower and discovered there was a 2nd toilet which wasn't wet and had toilet paper as well. My main phone hadn't charged much and was on 60% so I switched it off again and left it charging. Breakfast had been included in my booking so I had some bread with marmalade which was all they had and I left about 6.15. I tried to find a water machine but there were none on the way and when I got to the station I bought the train ticket and they only had 3rd class for 55 baht. The train was on the platform so I went and got on and there were no seat numbers so I found an empty bank of chairs and we soon departed with the windows down and fans on. The wooden benches were OK but for some reason the sun kept being on my side maybe because we were in the tropics and the sun doesn't go to the south at midday it goes to the north. There were various stops and people getting on and off and people selling things. I bought some rice and chicken for 40 baht and later some pineapple for 10 and had to use my phone to check where we were as the station names were not in the map, thankfully my phone was in 80% but I had to make that last. Around 1pm we arrived and I left the station and found the orange bus to go into town which was just 15 baht. I got off near to the ferry pier and also next to a temple so I went in to gave a look and it was fairly normal for a Thai temple but it had been a while since I'd been in Thailand so it seemed different again. I went to the city pillar which was nearby, small and white and sadly had some scaffolding. The bus had been slow and it was now past 2pm so I was worried I might have just missed a boat looking around but it would be OK and I went and found a stall selling tickets to Koh Tao but I wanted Ko Phangnan. The woman said there were no boats there but my map said different so I walked on along the front where there was a gap with just a wooden plank to cross. I should have gone back and round with all my luggage but I crossed it and the ferry building was closed and there was nothing happening. I checked my map and there was another pier called Don Sak which was further out and where all the boats go from. I didn't want to have to make my way there so I went to see how much the boat to Koh Tao was. It was a night boat leaving at 10pm and arriving at 6am for 550 baht and for some reason I decided to get it as I could get a boat to Ko Phangan from there after a couple of days and I still had a while before my flight back home. I bought my ticket, left my luggage there and went to see the town. I had a few things to try to do including find WiFi, a toilet, some food, a USB cable and an internet shop for later. I soon found a food market but the food and prices were not great so I walked through and came to a couple of temples. Surat Than I actually had quite a few places to see. I saw a shopping mall and went inside as they might gave WiFi which they didn't and a toilet which they did. My right Nike shoe was coming apart again and I'd left the super glue on the ship but I walked on and the road looked a bit empty so I went one road in and found a temple with a big statue that was nice although the front had looked like a petrol station. I knew where I was on the map although I was using my Tone phone and the GPS didn't work so I had to work out more and keep track of roads. I was near to a shop selling tickets to the islands and opposite was another temple I went and had a look at. It had a big main hall but was closed and while I was walking round the back of my shoe came off. I sat down and as I had my sewing kit from fixing my bag earlier I used that but it was tough sewing through rubber and I broke a couple of needles. I stopped and the shoe was just holding and went to the shop where a bus and ferry ticket to Ko Phangan was just 310 baht. I carried on around the corner and there was an internet shop for 20 baht an hour but I was hungry so I went past to find some food. I went past another internet place which was 15 baht and then found a 7-11 which had a street seller outside and I went in and bought some water and a sandwich. I also bought a fish stick and went to the cheaper internet place. I got a computer and spent over 2 hours updating my blog before leaving to get more food. I found a place that looked cheap but the man didn't seem to speak English so I carried on but there was another place that didn't look nice and a cheese restaurant that was expensive. I went back and managed to order a dish for 40 baht by pointing at what someone else was eating and the man was able to ask if I wanted chilli which I didn't. I ate up and went back to the 7-11 and got a sandwich and some biscuits for later. I also bought a sausage on a stick from the street seller and went back to the internet place. I stayed an hour and a half and my blog was a little less behind when I headed to the boat at 9pm. The sleeping space for each person was really small and I got the things I needed, brushed my teeth and threw away the Nike shoes. I noticed there were lots of ants near me, so I brushed them all away and went and lay in my bed reading and hoped that the boat didn't fill up. At 10pm there was half a bed of space on either side of me and an annoying fan which rotated to blow on me. I read until 10.30 then went to sleep.
