I got up at 6.50 am and someone else was up in the hostel. I let them use toilet while I looked at my washing and some of my clothes were still wet so I hung them around my bed as it was cold and damp outside. The guy was still in toilet at 7.20 when I tried the door and he opened it and told me was another toilet around the back so I showered and got ready, taking some food. The hostel people were asleep around the main room on couches and tables so all the beds must be full. I left around 8am and took the tube first and then looked for a bus getting on the first bus no.95 which turned right at the next corner. Someone had left a 1 yuan note folded so I took it as I got off the bus at the next stop. Further along the next bus no.79 turned left at the next corner after I got on so I lost 2 yuan and had no change left. I bought a snack to get change and then saw bus no. 71 and ran as it was in wikitravel. It got away but behind it was bus 10 which I caught and rode to the last stop. There was an entrance with a ticket office and I went through a different gate to go up the hill with a park/forest on. There was a transformer outside a cafe named 66 it was a place like boxpark in Shoreditch but much smaller. I went up the hill road which had construction work for flats and along the road there was one view which was not great. Carrying on I went through the woods a bit and at the end found the road blocked by a gated area. I turned right for a way around but there was none, only a nice sports centre. I went back through the forest path and found a road on the other side and further along a wall that looked like it had a temple behind it. I walked along the wall on a path although it didn't remain a path for long and I gave up walking in the woods after a bit as there seemed no way through so I went back all the way to tge bus stop and paid the 30 yuan entrance fee. I went up steps and more steps and more steps to the golden Temple. The temple had been built somewhere else and moved from that location to here. There were rooms on the sides with a few museum type things inside and at the end was a small temple building. I went around the side as there was more to see and then headed East as per maps to the bell tower. They had a few old things like bronze drums on the way and the bell tower look ok. I climbed up for some views which were ok but there were trees blocking some of the view. I went back down and looked at the signs then headed to the camellia garden as per early notice board it was one of the largest or something. It was quite a walk with a toad and boardwalk and getting there I found the greenhouse closed and not much to see in the camellia garden. It was 11.30 and I really wanted to be back to check out so I carried on down the way I'd been going as maybe it was quicker. I got a bit lost and came to a lake and after that the gate from before which I'd thought was a temple behind the wall. Finally I went in the right direction but my phone battery was low and not charging much. I found the exit and maps said the tube was 36 minutes walk so I got bus 10 again which went to the tube station - north railway and I headed south. I got off 1 stop early and had to get back on again and eventually was back at the hostel at 12.20. I packed my clothes away, planned for the train took more food to eat and asked the girl at reception if she could write the address of Ease hostel in Guilin so I could send the keys back. She seemed a bit dim so I had to find the Chinese address myself and she wrote it so I didn't bother her with my sim card not working. I went to Walmart for food and got some tofu, noodles, pears which were 50% off, juice and superglue. I had a really heavy bag and walked to the southern bus station along a not great road. I got there and there were no local buses just long distance so I headed north to the main road which went east to west but I couldn't cross and one road was elevated. On the busy main road I found what looked like a bus stop and people kept asking if I was going somewhere I didn't recognise. Then a bus 51 went past and didn't stop and people there told me to walk along the road to the bus stop. I did and followed someone to the stop where the bus came and I got on and paid 1 yuan as I wasn't sure how far it would go that I wanted. The bus went a way in the right direction and a guy with a kid and walking poles got on which was a good sign. The bus kept going making up for the earlier bus problems I'd had and I paid 1 more yuan as I got off. There was a road going up the hill that was blocked for traffic and lots of people were walking up so I joined them although there were still coaches using the road I found. It was a bit of a walk up to a tmmonument not really worth seeing and a magnolia garden that was only 3 yuan but I missed it for time reasons. There was a temple and nearby another one but they were 30 yuan on what seemed to be a combined ticket. I headed on and took a path up through the forest and then back down to the road and another temple which was also included in the ticket I'd not bought. There was a memorial area where I learned it was for a composer called Nieer who died aged 23 and had written the national anthem of China. There were lots of tourists around as it was near the cable car and I went there to see the view from the platform. I wanted to go to dragon gate and continue walking but there were barriers and a ticket office for a scenic area costing 40 yuan. I found a path in the right direction but it went down so I went that way and got dome good views on the way down. I was near the bottom when there was a path up to the Dragon gate so I went that way up more steps only to come to a ticket booth for the scenic area so I couldn't visit and there was a free central path which went the way I'd come without the up and down.I went back down again and then across the causeway that had a cable car going across as well which I found out costs 70 yuan. At the bottom was a busy park area park along the lake with lots of bikes and some camping tents. I walked through the park to the bus station where there were 2 buses I could catch but I needed change so I tried yo buy some eggs from a man but he wanted 5 yuan so I missed the 2 buses. Another egg woman wanted 4 yuan but I got some pork on a stick for 2 yuan and caught bus 24 and not 73 like other tourists. The bus took me fairly central and I went along the main road which was busy and saw a foot bridge but there was a Carrefour supermarket there so I went inside and bought a few things. After eating my food I went across the footbridge to the west pagoda which was ok and then I was heading to the other pagoda and in between them was a big building which looked like a small castle but when I went inside had lots of rocks and it turned out to be a Jade shop/museum type place. The building was nice and the guy there showed me a rock under light which showed how translucent it was. I went from there to the East pagoda, which was pretty much an exact replica of the West one but this had fencing around. I headed north to an attraction on the map and there was a main road with Chinese gates (entrance types) and a nice area in central Kunming. I found the nearby Mosque and went across the main road to a pedestrianised plaza space which had been created by the road going underground, There was another mosque and I headed back along the pedestrian road and walked around a little then headed back to the hostel where I was at 8.45. I asked for help to post my letter back to Ease hostel with the locker key but apparently tomorrow was a holiday so the post office would be shut so i did exciting things like charged my phone and read before leaving for the train station and I had to drag my suitcase a lot of the way as the wheels were not so good and neither were the pavements. I had no trouble entering as there were short queues but the waiting area was busy and it was not as nice as the south train station. There was an announcement and a big queue started for train but I stayed seated for a bit before joining them. We got down and there was not long to board because train arrives from somewhere and was leaving soon. the beds looked decent and I had bottom bunk but my compartment area had bags everywhere with no space so I squeezed my case under the bed and went to sleep with a woman and baby opposite me and noises all around.
