I woke up fairly early and was soon sitting in the dive shop studying some more. The questions were easy but I still wanted to read the chapters and around 8am the office was busy with people getting things ready. I was with an instructor called Kiko and I got my BCD ready and checked that my mask and fins fit. I was waiting for the buffet breakfast to start so I sat up there and at 8.30 it started but we had to do the briefing then. They all joined me at the buffet area and there was s couple from Chile, Sebastian and Valerie and a Hungarian girl called Orsi who was my buddy. We did the questions and then the briefing and I just had enough time to get one more plate of food before we had to go. We geared up and took everything to the boat which took us out a short distance to the Batu Nisan dive site. We put our equipment on and did backward rolls into the water and went down to the bottom where we did buoyancy exercises near or on the bottom. There were no fish to see and it was a bit boring but we did get to swim through a hoop and I was able to maintain a level close to the bottom to knock weights over. We got back to the boat and went back to shore where I transferred my equipment to a new tank. I tried to have some more breakfast but the man working there wouldn't let me. I read some more and then had another briefing and at 12pm I was on a boat heading out to the D.Lagoon dive site for navigation. I was in a different group this time with 2 French girls called Anne-Claire and Morganne and our instructor a Frenchman called Nathan. Navigation was not too much fun either, measuring kick cycles and going in a square but we finished and went around the coral for a bit then gad Nathan doing his circus tricks for the safety stop before we got out and did a bit of snorkeling although I didn't have an actual snorkel. We went back to shore again and had to give back the compass they had let us use and transfer to a new tank again. It was quite late for lunch so I went to get some and walked all the way up the beach to see what there was and ended up at the same cafe as the evening before I saw Morganne there. She was here on a normal 3 week holiday from Paris and we talked a bit about the WiFi not working amongst other things. I had a similar noodle dish as the day before but they forgot my rice and at least didn't charge me for it. We went separate ways and I got my rucksack together and headed off north to see some of the island. The path was not great and it was very hot so I sweated a lot. At the top were a couple of wind turbines and some solar panels and a viewpoint but there was only a narrow area to see which was not blocked by trees. I went downhill and came close to Adam & Eve beach but carried on and passed 4 guys who wanted to know how far it was to the beach. I got to D.Lagoon which was a small place with just a few buildings and I briefly tried the rope swing and took photos before heading off. I went to the tip of the island where there was a turtle beach which looked nice and was empty. I hadn't bought my swimwear and I'd been in the water quite a bit anyway so I took some photos and headed back. The route back was the same as out but I was checking my map when.a monkey startled me. It was quite a big male macaque and it bared its teeth and advanced. I got my composure back and scared it back out of my way before walking on. It was getting on a bit as I had a briefing for a night dive at 6.30 and I went to Adam & Eve beach and saw a bank card and some business cards for a person called Viktor. I thought about picking them up but decided to leave them and carried on to the beach. On the way I thought that maybe someone had stolen a wallet and just thrown the cards away so when I got to the beach I asked the guy there if he knew a Viktor and he did it was one of his friends snorkelling. Turned out he'd just dropped his cards from his phone wallet so we went back to get them and then I carried on back to long beach with another good look at the view from the top of the island. I got back very hot and sweaty a bit after 5, so still early so I read a bit more from the advanced diving book and still couldn't connect to the website. I recorded my earlier dives in what remained of my oceans 5 dive book and was ready for the briefing. We were doing a night dive to Batu Nisan the nearest site and would only really be able to see what we shined our torch on. I was with the 2 French girls and we gad a different diving instructor called Artu. It was the same as before going out and we kitted up in the water, got our torch and went down. It wasn't that dark at first as the sun had just set but it got dark quickly especially when we were a few metres down. The dive was good and we saw a few cool things and didn't have much to do as a task just swim away and come back without losing our way or getting scared in the dark. When we got out it had started raining and was cold while the sea had been really warm. I shivered back to land and only had to wash my snorkel, mask and exposure top as they did the rest which was nice. I had a shower and got dressed once the rain eased off a bit and then got a banana and some biscuits from the local store and a plate of rice and a burger from up the beach. I walked around and there wasn't much going on but at least the rain stopped later on. There was a bar with a dance floor up the beach and a few people drinking somewhere else and Mark was with some Panorama divers at his usual place. I read and did a few things but was a bit tired so I went to bed at 11.30 and the lights were off with some other people sleeping.
