I got up and packed my things away and left them in the hostel then had tofu and noodles for breakfast before heading out to see the garden I'd missed the day before. I walked past a museum of art which had a notice saying it was closed today. I got to the garden and it opened at 9 so I was too early and went to other bookmarked places around the area and saw the big Toda-ji temple again. I went back to the garden and got in for free with my passport and the garden was ok but small so didn't take long to walk around, it had a moss garden and a pond. I left and headed back and got a message from Clive as he had landed. The art museum I'd passed earlier was open now so I went in and had a look and they had calligraphy and some modern work, some were ok but most were not great. I went back to the hostel, messaged Clive, got my things and went to the train station so I could try to meet Clive in Kyoto but the train was slow and left at 10.50. I arrived in Kyoto at 11.20 and had messages from Clive to meet in the train station at the Skywalk. I managed to get there but I was too late and they weren't around so I had a look at the skywalk and the views there. Then as I couldn't get in touch with him I took the subway to my hostel which was near to the tube station but I couldn't see it and went all the way round the block and then got lucky and found the hostel as I'd been going in the wrong direction, South instead of West. I couldn't check in as it was too early so I left my luggage and messaged Clive who was now at a temple a bit north from the railway station. It was about 20 minutes walk so I headed off and we had intermittent messages back and forth when I got WiFi on the roads on my way there. I walked past a Manga museum on the way and was worried he might have moved on from the temple but when I got there Clive and Frances were there and it was good to meet up. I had expected them to go to their hostel like I had done but it turned out that Air France had managed to lose their luggage en route which is why they had been free to go to the temple and wander around. We had another look around the temple which was pretty big, mostly wood, free and fairly nice. There were some big empty rooms and then we left and went to another temple nearby which had a ceremony going on with lots of people there. They had TV screens and we sat down near the back and watched for a bit before leaving. After that Clive and Frances decided they wanted a rest and so we decided to head to the hostel and looked for a bus but it wasn't clear at the bus stop where the buses went. Several buses went past our stop and a man with his daughter told us this was not the stop so we moved on to another bus stop where a bus stopped but it was not going to right place. We decided to give up on buses and they went to tube station, but as it was not so far I walked back and looked at some shops on the way and got a bit of food to eat. Back at hostel I checked in and had a message from Clive that he was having a nap so we could meet up at 5.45pm at their hostel which was not too far from mine. I still had time so I went to have a look around the imperial palace but when I got there the places were shut at 5 so I went back and headed to Clive and Frances's hostel called Kyoto Morris which I had trouble finding as it wasn't quite where I had bookmarked it. I did find it though and it had a computer in the entrance area and downstairs a nice big kitchen which was good for sitting in and cooking food. I had booked my hostel first and then they had booked afterwards, but I wished I had cancelled mine and booked theirs as they had suggested as it was definitely better than mine and it had laundry as well. They weren't there but I had no WiFi to message them so I left at 6pm to get WiFi which I found not too far away and I messaged to say I would meet them in the Kitchen area and went back. There was still no sign of them so at 6.20 I left and headed south to see the shopping area. I got a message from Clive to say that they had gone shopping and so I tried to find them and messaged a map of where they were and Clive messaged back that they were in H & M which I had gone past a bit ago but couldn't remember where it was. I couldn't find them and after a while I gave up and went along the river a bit and then went back to their hostel and ate some food I'd picked up. I used the computer in the reception area to update my blog and after a bit they came back and had bought some clothes as Air France would compensate them for some spend in response to losing their luggage which should come the next day. I gave them one of my travel adapters and some sun cream and then after a bit went back to my hostel. I was in a top bunk for 3 nights which wasn't great and I read a bit and went to sleep. The bunk bed had curtains and the lights dimmed at 11 but people were still talking a bit so I used my ear plugs and slept ok.
