I got up early at 5.30, showered and packed up a bit. It was still dark outside and Arsenal had won FA cup. I spent some time on my phone, blogging and researched some places a bit. Then I went to river and there were no boats there so I sat there waiting until I got a boat across at 6.43. On the other side there were a few buildings including a shop, a hotel and some others I walked past. I got to the path, which was boarded with space next to it so there were no trees attacking me here. It was still dark so I used the torch but didn't see much wildlife - just 2 spiders. I came to junctions which were well sign posted and I headed to the canopy walk which was a bit uphill. When I got there, the canopy walk was closed and I couldn't get up to rope bridges. It seemed it opened at 9.30 which would have meant I would miss the 10am bus so I carried on and took the path to the top of hill. Somehow I missed the hill top but stopped at a view point where I could see over the jungle a bit. I was dripping with sweat so I used new small towel that I'd unwrapped and grown with water recently. I headed on the long way around and down the hill and managed to get a bit lost in the jungle but went back and found the path. It led me on to a stream and then to the river and a beach there which was a bit small. I was back at the shop, hotel, main area and headed down where I had to wait a bit for a boat to take me back across the river. I headed up the steps, but still had plenty of time before the bus left so I went back for a photo of the river and saw a snake with a rodent kill in its mouth. I took a few photos before it slithered away and then went to a shop and bought some biscuits. Back to at the motel, I had a shower and found 2 more leeches and I had a bloody sock again. I killed them and tidied up a bit, then packed and left around 9.45. The bus came and I had a last look for food, but there was none I wanted so I got on the bus and ate cakes and biscuits on the bus which arrived at 11.25 in Jerantut. I managed to get a ticket and got on the 11.30 bus to Kuantan. The bus had been empty but it stopped at 12.15 for 20 minutes and people got on and I moved seats twice and the bus played the movie King Kong but I couldn't hear from back and the subtitles were Malaysian. I slept a bit and we arrived at 2.30 in a bus station. I looked around for a way to get to the city and realised I'd left my kindle on the bus so I rushed back and picked it up. I took a local bus to the centre and found the hostel which looked ok. I checked in and got a bottom bunk. I asked at reception about museums but she was no help. The WiFi was not working in the hostel and there were people in the place watching a film. I ate some bread with jam, got some water and went out. I walked to quite a big mosque and took a photo of it. The museum nearby was closed at weekends and I walked on to a shoe shop where I looked for soles for the trainers I found in Kuala Lumpur. They weren't so cheap and I wasn't sure about these trainers yet so I walked on and headed along the river front. The road went a bit further than the map showed, but there was no museum where it was supposed to be. There was a waterlogged path so I went around it and came to a large building called perhasakaan awam which looked like it might be a museum and had a coach parked in front. It was closed and didn't look like a museum either. I walked across a grass field that was waterlogged in places from all the rain. I came to a decorative Hindu temple and had a quick look and then carried on walking away from the hostel to a mosque. There was a market stall and I bought some Chicken, samosas and a savoury cake to eat. The Mosque nearby was ok but small and I started to turn and head back and on the way to the next place there was a big market for food but I already had food. I did buy 3kg of mangoes for 10 rm from the second stall selling it as they looked better. The temple in my map turned out not to be there. I headed back to the main road eating one mango after another but left the last one and I got sticky fingers. There was a market with more food stalls but I'd had enough for the moment so I kept going but did stop at a 2 RM store. I went in to see what they had for 2 ringitts, maybe some soles for my shoes but they didn't. I ended up buying a toothbrush, some lychee juice, biscuits and some hand gel. Finally I could clean my hands easily again. The lychee juice was not nice and turned out to be more of a syrup like a cordial that requires watering down. I came to a medium sized temple that was shut but had s graveyard next to it but nothing to keep me long. I carried on and went up a hill to see a mosque that was not good at all so I went back down and along to a temple which was ok but sadly shut and not in great shape. Next to it was another temple probably connected in some way that was being used and looked nice. There was a cemetery nearby that was small and I think for Christians and I walked back along the main road stopping to look at a small Hindu temple with all of its elaborate decorations. I got back to the hostel and researched bus times for the next day to get to Kuala Terengganu. My phone wasn't connecting to the WiFi for some reason so I used the computer and my other phone and booked accommodation there at the space inn. I went out to get some dinner and just gad a rice with sauce dish which came with a little vegetables as well. I ate up and went back to the hostel and used the computer to blog a while. The room was a bit dark as there were people watching the family guy star wars movie and they had been watching another movie earlier when I arrived. I went off to do some other things and another guy used the computer so I read a while and used the computer again a bit more later before going to bed. My feet were still a bit itchy from the leech bites and other insect bites as well but I got to sleep no problems.
