I woke up a bit later than usual and it was still a bit cold and the dorm was empty. I got all my stuff together, showered and tried the omlette with bread for breakfast which was a little more substantial but not as nice as the pancake. I booked the 2pm bus with the guy in the hostel whcih meant it would pick me up at the hostel so I wouldn't have to walk to the DMZ cafe. Then I headed out to the palace and stopped to get a few photos of the flag tower. I used my last ticket to enter the palace and it did not seem that busy but soon there were tour groups in the popular parts. There were a lot of buildings and no real maps or routes so I used maps.me to make my way around the place which had lots of photos from 80 to 100 years ago and some information boards but not all buildings were in great shape. I managed to cover everywhere and also managed to walk outside of the palace and had to get the security guard to let me get back in. I finished up exiting through the East gate where I had to avoid the golf buggies for the lazy or old tourists. I finished up and headed to the museum linked to the palace where they stored artifacts. They had some Japanese things and some details of the history of trade with Japan and I went around taking a few photos before being told it was not allowed. There was also a section on the Cham kingdom and the sculpture so I was glad I didn't see that museum in Danang. I left, went to a park and then to a military history museum which was closed for lunch but had loads of military tanks, artillery and a few planes in front to see as I walked past. I left the area crossing back over the bridge and went to a park along the perfume river which was worth a quick visit but was not marked on maps.me as anything. There was a high school where Ho chi minh went to and a government building where I was told not to take photos despite it being surrounded by a fence so easy to see. I headed back towards the hostel as it was after 1pm and my bus was at 2.
I didn't see the art gallery but it was closed for lunch but I did find a free photo exhibition and a gems cafe where I could access their wifi. I went back a different way to get some food and found a place that did takeaway rice for 20k. It was quite well done and I ate it at the hostel before my bus came. The bus was half full after we picked up a couple of other people in town so it was quite a good journey. I talked to a Dutch guy and a German girl a bit and when we stopped for a toilet stop I got a banh my (roll with egg) and a cake and had a nap on the bus afterwards. We arrived around 6 which was early so I checked in and got lucky with a double room which was empty at the time but would have one more person maybe. I wandered town a bit and went from one end to the other, into easy tiger a popular hostel and up to a tent which was preparing for a wedding. I got a bread roll at one end and a vermicelli dish at the other and then went back to my room and sorted out a few things before a girl was checked into my room. She was called Sabine and from Denmark and I let her play her music through my speaker which I'd been using. I read a bit and finally went to sleep around 11.40.
