I woke up around 7 but slept in until 8 giving me 4 hours sleep. The guy with the laptop was asleep now and I showered and headed out. The WiFi still didn't work so I went looking for some to book a bed for that day. I went to the nearby Jalan Alor food area and a lot of places were shut and the others were not so cheap so I went to a shop and got some biscuits and I ate a few of the bananas I had. There was an internet shop but when I asked they said it was slow so maybe the broadband for the area was a problem. I found an information booth but the man there just told me to go to Low Yat mall which didn't open for an hour still until 10. I wandered around to a park and there was construction work on the way but not too bad and I saw an old looking wooden building but it could be a new build in an old style. The park turned out to be a golf course which was useless so I started heading back. I noticed that the GOKL free busses had WiFi so I got on a pink or purple one although it turned out to be the blue route. I took it for a full circuit to see where it would go and I booked a room at the Royal Palm which was right next to the Goldbrick I'd stayed at. I got off the bus at Bukit Bintang and walked back to the hotel. The guy with the laptop was up and my batteries were still charging on the balcony area. We talked for a bit and he is from the Philippines and worked while moving around. I had to leave the conversation to pack up as it was close to the 12pm check out time and the woman at the desk apologised to me for last night as DJ (the Filipino) had told her what happened. I got my deposit back no problem and picked up my charger but DJ had hone somewhere. I left my luggage there as the Royal Palm had told me I could only check in after 3pm so I headed off. I went to get the free purple GOKL bus and it was supposed to come in 4 minutes but took ages. I had a list of things to do and one of them was to get sunglasses so I had a look in a shop and there was a polarised pair that looked ok and the guy wanted 60 ringitt for them. I wasn't sure I wanted them that much but I ended up buying them for 20 ringitt which I still think is quite a bit. The bus came eventually and took me to Chinatown an area I knew from when I stayed here last. It was lunch time so I headed towards my favourite cheap place to eat and found an umbrella for 10 ringitt on the way. I was ticking things of my list which also had getting a haircut and I saw a barbers which was 15 RM for a cut, an ok price but I wanted food first. I found a table space at the restaurant and got 2 rices and a chicken korma with a water, all for 10.20 - about £2. At least I was full, although I did fancy a desert. I went back and decided to get the haircut although I was concerned I might get sunburn with no hair. Explaining all off and number 1 was ok as the guy spoke some English and I probably should have washed my hair as his razor got stuck a few times. I paid up and walked out a little bit lighter and feeling fresher as my hair gad been too long for the hot weather. I headed south with a park area being my final destination for the day and somewhere I had bookmarked to see the last time I was here. The first stop was bookmarked as a castle but getting there involved walking along the roads I'd walked yesterday which were even harder to cross as there were more cars. I got there and it turned out to be the Royal palace where the king lived only the King of Malaysia is chosen from 9 sultans, 1 for each part of the Country. It was 10 ringitt entry or 5 for locals and I paid and went in. First there was the palace itself with various entertaining and living rooms which was fairly standard nice carpets, chandeliers etc for a palace. After that there was one big room with an exhibition about the current king who had been inaugurated only on December while I was in Singapore or Indonesia. He was from the north east of the country and did sports once upon a time at least. The whole he does this etc was a bit like something you might write for a dating website profile but I did like learning about the countries way of governing and they had some artefacts and clothes as well. I left back out the way I came and went along the road and thought there was no entry into a park nearby but I saw some steps and they took me up and into the park. It wasn't a great park and I didn't see all the fruit trees as it was meant to be an orchard but it was nice enough and there were girls running for sport. I left the same way I'd come and carried on for a bit before crossing the road by an overpass. It was mostly another hot day so I used my new umbrella to stop me getting sunburn. On the other side of the road was a river and I crossed it at the next bridge and then followed a bike path and it looked like I might have to cross the river but there was a small path that worked out and I came to a car workshop and a few food stalls where I bought 3 mangos and some fried bananas. I carried on and the path went under a building and then I was met with several motorways and no obvious route to take. The safest option looked to be a long way around but there was a new road that wasn't being used that went in the right direction so I walked along that but unfortunately it became a slip road for a motorway and I couldn't see an easy way to cross the 3 lanes of traffic on each side. I looked around for another road that went over or under or if I could walk along the river which was possible but there was a long drop down and who knows if I could get up. I gave up and headed for the safer route and was walking along when a really big lizard got out of my way. It was hanging there and looked a bit frightened so I probably shouldn't have had a closer look as it dropped down through the tree branches and smacked onto the top of a tin roof and slithered away. I carried on along the road and after a while came to a covered walkway crossing that had a view of a mosque and took me to a bank or something. There was an escalator to the top and an outside garden and walking to the end and then down a path at the end I found the road near to the park I was aiming for. The sky was a bit darker and it looked like it might rain soon but I still took the path into the park and climbed up the small hill there. It was still hot and I was sweating a lot and there were lots of trees around as I headed south and I was thinking that maybe Taman Negara might be like this and I'll just be sweating through the jungle so maybe I should just give it a miss. There was not much to see in the park and the viewpoint was a little disappointing and meanwhile I had heard thunder a few times and seen some lightning but it hadn't rained where I was. I was listening to music on my Tone phone, nothing about rain though and it started raining so I got the umbrella out and carried on towards a bookmarked waterfall. At least the rain would mean there would be some water in the waterfall but when I got there it was just a stream and I didn't see anything worth looking at. The rain got worse and I was still wet from sweating so much which was a bad combination as the air hadn't cooled yet and it was hard to use my phone for maps as the phone touch screen doesn't work when it gets wet. I carried on walking and didn't seem to be getting anywhere so I dried my phone and found that the direction I was heading in was not helping so I changed direction but then had to climb up some slightly muddy slopes. It turned out alright but with being wet and not being able to check the map I was not in a good mood and was happy when I reached the top and there was some shelter so I could dry off and see how to get back. It turned out to be a 35 minute walk to a train station and I took a few photos of the view before going down. I took a wrong turning on the road but found some Nike shoes someone had left. They were all wet but looked in better condition than mine and were about the right size so I took them and then went the right way to a main road where there was a mosque. From there it was a few more minutes and I came to the train station which was quite small. The next train was just past 7pm and it took a while before I was sure I was on the right platform. It was a train not a subway so I got off at Kuala Lumpur station and then took a GOKL bus which took me back to Bukit Bintang. It was past 8 when I got back and checked in and the woman told me the dorm was full. I don't know how they managed to ignore my booking but I'd already paid and she wanted to put me in a double room which I would share with someone. I made it clear what I thought of that and she gave me the room to myself which was good. I went out and got some food to eat and then did a few things before I took all of my dirty clothes to the launderette. I booked a room for Taman Negara in 2 days as there was not much availability and despite being a little expensive this was at least for a double room. I moved my clothes to a dryer and watched a band playing a bit outside on the street. I could hear them from the hotel as well and some of their songs were quite good. I booked a room in Jerantut for the next day so that I could be close to Taman Negara and make the most of my one nights accommodation there. I took my clothes back which were dry after just one cycle which was good and I did a few things in the room like sewing my shorts which had ripped during the day before going to bed around 11 hoping to catch up on sleep.
