I was woken up by a security guard, I looked at my watch and it had only been about 30 minutes. I needed more sleep so I looked around for somewhere quiet and found a business area on the 8th floor but it was in the open still so probably a security guard, maybe the same one would come round. I went into a toilet and slept in a cubicle, it was uncomfortable and I woke up around 7am with some cramps. It was morning so I could sleep outside now so I went to a park and the benches all had armrests so I just found a spot on the grass behind a rock and lay down. I woke up at 9 and went to get my bag but I couldn't find the cloakroom so I had to ask someone. After that I went to see the sights starting with a park with an Asian arch. The arch was just a 2 minute diversion and nearby was a museum of grand prix which seemed strange to have in Macau, it opened at 10am so I needed to wait a while. There was a square nearby which had a gold lotus flower, the symbol of Macau and there were lots of tourists. There was supposed to be a wine museum but I couldn't find it. It was 10 to 10 and I was thinking of just heading off but I found a gallery of Macau basic law which was open and free and had some history of Macau inside, not much but enough and then it was past 10 so I went to the grand prix museum and apparently they used to have a formula 1 here and have formula 3 now. Aryton Senna and the likes used to race here until maybe 2000 although I don't remember it they probably called it the China grand prix. It wasn't a good museum but had some cars and stuff. I went to leave and the wine museum was there by the exit in the same building so I had a look around and they do make wine in China. I headed to a hill next and had to divert as I couldn't cross a big road. There was a footbridge and then on the other side a lift and a short walk up the hill from there to a lighthouse and chapel. The chapel gad frescos inside and was small and several hundred years old but didn't allow photos. I walked along the top of the hill which had fortifications and a tunnel and I came to the cable car and nearby a building with information on a local white dolphin but it was all in Chinese. I went down the hill on a path to the garden of flowers, which didn't have many flowers but there was an aviary which had common birds in. I left the hill and went east to an Islamic cemetery that was closed and the communications museum that charged 10 mop entry and as I didn't have much time I skipped it. I went north to Russia park which had a small hill but not much there, across the road was a cemetery with lots of cremated plaques. There were people burning things to their ancestors so smoke was all over. There was also graves and a chapel there. I carried on the road around s corner to a Chinese temple with a garden and painted rocks going up a small hill. It was a busy day and I walked to next park but missed my turn and saw a temple. I decided to go round the park first and came to a temple and a museum to Li, the Chinaman who burnt the opium and caused the war, that was 5 mop entry so I skipped it and went to the park and up the hill where there was a watchtower that was so small it was more like a military pill box. I walked along the hill and the fortress was disappointingly shut so I headed down and an eco building thing was shut as well, still it might have saved me time. I left the park and with a few possible routes I went to a park where the entrance was through a tea house museum. The gardens were nice with water features and relaxed me a little. I left and went to a nearby cemetery with the entrance around the side and a chapel inside. It was more of a European cemetery but did have some tombs with peoples faces on. I left there and went towards an attraction on the map, and found a square with very few people and a stage for something. There were nice buildings around but none for visiting. The bookmarked attraction place was a photo art exhibition, some modern things which were ok but not something to spend time at. I walked on to the Vasco de gama garden which had a statue and not much else and so I went to the back entrance of the fortress which went around and up steps to the top. There were some decent views from the top and a museum I went into for 15 mop. They gad the history of china and portugal separately until Macao became Portuguese and then 1 history of Macau. There were some boring parts with what houses look like etc but it was well written mostly. I left and went to the neary church ruin and crypt, which reminded me of Efes in that it was just the front of the buolding remaining. There were lots of people there and I went along a street art place to st Dominics church which closed soon after I entered. Next there was a square with a couple of buildings to see like the post office and I left the busy area. The next area was the historical centre with a church, square, an entrance to a church which was not allowed, and a theatre I went inside to look around briefly historical area. Macau did have quite a few things built by the Portuguese and not far away was a different church and then up some steps to the blocked church place, both were ok. It was a long walk next to a Moorish barracks that had construction work around the back and didn't have any entrance. I looked at the map and apparently I missed some places on the way there but I carried on to A ma temple which is dedicated to a sea god and was near the sea. It had rocks painted and levels going up in the garden. It was old but not impressive. Nearby was the maritime museum which looked closed as I walked to the wrong door. I read the museum pamphlet and they had something on admiral Zhu so went in for 10 MOP. It was a decent place with some boring things like fishing boats and modern ships. I looked at the map and it was 30 minutes walk back to a casino and then a shuttle bus from there so I decided to take a bus back to save on the walk and I didn't have to wait long. It went to the Parisian but I still had a voucher from the slots for the Galaxy and the bus went past there so I got off. I cashed in my 8.30 voucher, while most people were doing hundreds or thousands of MOP vouchers. I asked someone working there for a shuttle to the Venetian and they pointed so I went there but couldn't find it, I walked outside and asked someone else who pointed so I went there which was round the front where I couldn't see the one I wanted so I asked and it was back where I'd come from. I gave up on it and walked across parking area which annoyed the Indian parking people and it was quite a walk before I arrived at the Parisian around 5.30. I found the suitcase place and there was no charge, the staff were very helpful and showed me where shuttle was to the border. We got there just after 6pm and I wanted to get rid of my change so I got some duty free. There were some cheap cakes so I bought them and they were coconut cakes but they turned out to be a bit hard like biscuits and I'd been eating coconut biscuits for the last day. I went to immigration which was a bit of a queue but not too bad leaving Macau, the 2nd line to China took a while and I was through at 7pm. I walked out onto a square with lots of other people, I was in China, my 54th Country. Maps showed after a bit that I was going in the right direction but my suitcase was not moving too well and it was late so after a bit walking along the street against traffic, I crossed and got bus 11 and was lucky when it turned left where I wanted to go. I got off close, and crossed the road and then couldn't see it so I asked at a hotel. They told me to wait a minute I thought while he searched but I got onto open wifi and agoda directions gave me a different address so I went there
Had to drag my suitcase around and not on the pavement as it had too many bumps which meant using the road and waiting when cars came. I got there and it was a dark alley with no buildings, nearby there were a few places but no hostel. I went to the nearest main road and into a hotel there where they didn't speak so much English but the guy there gad a translate app where you speak. It didn't always translate properly and Betty's became lettuce. They found where it was and wrote the address on a piece of paper for me to show to a taxi driver so I waited for one but there were other people waiting who took them. After a bit I did get a taxi to look at the paper but he didn't want to take me there. I decided to go to a better place for taxis and crossed the main road and found another place with wifi. I messaged a friend back home who sent me a couple of screenshots of where the hostel was which was pretty much where I'd started so I walked back there again avoiding the bumpy pavement and the first road was not the right place. I was tired of carrying my suitcase around and I just wanted to leave it while I find the place so I tried fitting it under a 4x4 but it didn't fit so I took it to the next road where the map said I was in the right place but there was no hostel. I rung a doorbell where it might be but nobody answered so I went back to the hotel from earlier and the guy there recognised me and told me to wait and he made a phone call and then Betty was there and took me back to the hostel which is where I gad just been ringing the doorbell. I explained I'd had trouble finding it and she said she had been at the hotel earlier when I had been told to wait and then tried to email me and said maybe her father could look at my suitcase when I said there were problems. She was going to give me a top bunk bed but then put me in a 3 bed room instead on my own as it was empty. After I'd done a few things she came to show me where to get food. I bought a bread thing, then a rice dish and I got some water back at the hostel. She had brought umbrellas along but it had been light rain so I had only used it a little. Betty also told me to have a shower before 12 as there was no hot water until 8am otherwise. I decided it wasn't so important and tried to get some things done on my phone and managed to get a VPN working called hide.me which meant google maps and gmail worked. I looked at the TV and found a news channel in English, ate my rice dish and went to sleep around 11.30.
