Woke up a bit late at 7.30 and felt a bit tired but I went for breakfast and there was one person there. It was bread and peanut butter or jam and I made a sandwich to go for later as well. When I washed up there were only 3 plates before me so it didn't look like many people had got up yet even though it was quite late. Lots of people in my room were awake but just on their phones, seems the future is bright, a bright thing in front of you in a dark room. I did the usual things and packed my suitcase away and made a 2 day pack for the trip, left my suitcase at the hostel and went to get the bus at queen street. The bus was just $3.30 and didn't take so long but then passport control took ages and there were a few queues but they didn't move so fast. I moved queue and they were closing our queue but then later they opened it again so people rushed across including one lady who just walked past me. I kept tapping her on the shoulder and she said there was supposed to be 2 lines, but I kept saying no and tapping her until she eventually moved back. I think I got on a different bus afterwards which drove to Malaysian customs. This was quicker and I walked into the city through the malls and went to the hostel. I got there around 11.30 so almost half the day was gone. The bed wasn't ready so I left my things in a locker and went to see the town starting with a cemetery which had a nice mausoleum and was just across the road. I carried on to a clock tower and football stadium place but there wasn't much to see so I headed east and came to the mosque which was really nice but completely closed. I left and walked to the zoo and checked the price not expecting to go in but it was only 2RM (about 40p) so I got a ticket. They had a fair amount of animals including a sun bear, lions, tigers, monkeys, birds (like ostriches) and deer. There always seem to be deer in Asian zoos. Anyway it took a bit to get around and had some information as well, for instance which moves faster a estuarine crocodile, hippo or komodo dragon? I left the zoo and tried to visit the park next to it but there was no entrance and there was a sign saying that it was not allowed even though there was a museum in this park area. I thought maybe I could get in at the road but there was an interesting building so I went there first and it turned out not to be the royal palace but the court building. I went back to the park but it was closed so I went round to the royal palace where a guard told me I wasn't allowed in. There was only a few temples and churches left to see so I walked to each of them which wasn't too difficult even though I had to walk along a main road as there was actually a pavement. Came to a Hindu temple which was shut and a female tourist was complaining to her boyfriend. I walked on and there didn't seem to be anything where the glass temple was supposed to be but there was another temple also Hindu and also shut. I looked for a supermarket and headed towards one but ended up changing direction and back near the bus terminal and shopping mall which I went through checking out their highish prices before finding some more local shops where I got a juice and pot noodle. I hadn't properly eaten or drunk much and I think I was a bit dehydrated as I felt tired so I headed back to the hostel and had a rest there. I got up around 7pm and went to get some dinner and ended up at a place with a few others from the hostel. The nasi goreng was ok but the lychee drink had actual lychees at the bottom and a spoon to get them out. I decided to see the town on the dark and walked to the park which had no entry areas. I heard some fireworks really loudly as the sound echoed but they were on the other side of the park so I carried on and saw the palace lit up. I walked on planning to go round and back along the park but I came to the night market the hostel owner had told me about. They had lots of stalls selling all kinds including a lot of shoes and one place had 2nd hand jackets for just 1 ringitt, naturally there was a crowd.
I ended up buying a usb which connects to phones as well but it only seemed to have 60mb so I'm not sure it works properly, it was only 10 ringitt though. I also bought some 2nd hand nike trainers for 50 ringitt negotiated down from 65. I walked back the way I'd planned and there were some nice lights in a snall park on the way. Got back around 11 and checked out Unesco's website to find I hadn't seen many so far. Went to bed soon after. A hippo apparently runs the fastest at 19mph, while a crocodile does 15-18 (at least the saltwater does) and a Komodo 12mph.
